[h]änne und dänne: Der Untersee als Kunstraum

Exhibition information:

The Alemannic phrase “hänne und dänne” – on both sides – refers to the linguistic proximity between the German and Swiss shores of Untersee (Lower Lake Constance). It is also the name of a project affecting four towns on both sides: Berlingen, Gaienhofen, Hemmenhofen and Steckborn. The goal of the project is to remind the region of its cultural links, to promote networking and to create new impetus for the region through art.

Sculptures, artistic installations and conceptual works from the entire spectrum of visual arts are being created especially for this occasion and exhibited at selected locations in these Untersee municipalities.

The exhibition starts on 1 May 2026 and runs until 27 September 2026. All works are located along public pathways and are accessible at all times. The works are documented with information and are a source of inspiration for an art-loving audience. At the end of the exhibition period, the artworks will be removed.

Throughout the duration of the art project “hänne und dänne: Der Untersee als Kunstraum” (On both sides: Untersee as a space for art), a supporting programme will be offered, introducing interested visitors, local residents and passers-by to the various artistic works.

Information boards at the individual stations along the route provide information about the respective artistic creation. In-depth information is also provided on the multimedia website using QR codes.

Guided walks with expert guides, boat trips between the two shores of the lake with Schweizerische Schifffahrtsgesellschaft Untersee und Rhein AG (URh), opening and closing events, and tours of the participating municipalities are intended to support the joint public presentation and promote exchange. Groups can also book a programme tailored to their needs.
